Cyber Security – a Home Run
Data breach and Social engineering are to be frowned upon when it comes to Cybersecurity. In the events of cybersecurity attacks occurring each day across the globe, it is evident that every company is waiting unintentionally for the shoe to drop. How many firms and businesses ask themselves – “Are we safe from cyber-attacks?” and take precautions. Each company isn’t aware of what actually hit them unless they are in the losing end of an attack. This shouldn’t be the case.
Lack of cybersecurity resources and higher management not understanding the importance of cybersecurity when it comes to decision making affects their business in the digital world. To survive and be a successful company belonging to any industry, the precautionary steps must originate from within their business.
Data Breach
Data breaches occur due to innumerable reasons. An employee having access to sensitive information, third-party negligence or data spill shall potentially cause a data breach.
Immunity to a data breach?
- Conducting risk assessments and safeguarding the servers physically and remotely.
- Running background checks on third-party vendors and contractors before giving access to systems and networks.
- Endpoint detection & response, SIEM and Network detection & response tools to implement.
- Vendors and contractors to have compliance certificates to authenticate their cybersecurity services.
- A pre-planned incident response strategy to be in place as a precaution.
Social Engineering
Social engineering is a manipulative act of making people indulge in wrongful activities relating to confidential data. The classic example of social engineering is – a fraudulent customer care call that makes the individual give up his bank accounts and the OTP leading to theft. An individual isn’t aware of the actions unless there is a personal loss involved.
Social engineering happens when an individual or a business entity is blindly trusting any unknown source and ending up as bait. There are many methods of social engineering. A causal e-mail from an unknown person to your e-mail address might contain malicious links and hidden codes tempting you to click on it. Upon clicking such e-mails and downloading files and images from any untrusted links mighty inject a virus and the disruption of your system follows.
In every business, people are the weakest link. Any individual neglecting to authenticate a suspicious activity becomes the victim of social engineering that in-turn causes a huge loss for the organization. Though the industries and technology are growing exponentially, people aren’t guided how to cope with the growing technology and its do’s and don't.
To lead a good life and to be successful in doing so, it all has to start from within. The same applies to businesses when it comes to cybersecurity. To defend against cyber attacks and data breach, the basic foundation of the company should be properly built. Vendors and contractors are a lending hand to achieve it. Cybersecurity Service is a Homerun that knocks cyber attacks out of the park.
